Bettye M. Pickett left this earth on July 7, 2013 at Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Bettye was born in Coleman, Texas, and lived many places before finally moving to Buffalo Gap in 1971. She attended Catholic School in Kerrville, Texas and furthered her education in the nursing and medical administration fields. She was particularly proud of helping many facilities in the Abilene and Midland areas become JACHO accredited.
Bettye married Jack Pickett on March 31, 1971 in Fredericksburg, Texas and began a forty-two year love story. She loved to dance, read, fish, and was always looking to learn something new. She loved the Dallas Cowboy and University of Texas football organizations. Bettye was known for her sense of fashion and style.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Beadah (Witt) and Myron Luckett, and one son, Scott.
Surviving Bettye are her husband Jack Pickett and fur baby Jacque, three daughters Dawn, Lynda, and Robyn, two sons, Lonnie and Lucky, a step-daughter, Deborah, and two step-sons, Bob and Mike. Survivors also include 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
Visitation will be Thursday July 11, from 6-8 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Graveside services will be Friday, July 12, at 2 pm in Buffalo Gap Cemetery officiated by Melissa Dulin.
Pallbearers include, Yancy and Leigh Ann Gerbert, Tiffany Siesser-Edwards, Doug McClure, David Spurlin, and Mike Baldree.
