Bettye Chuter Moak, 78, of Abilene, went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2010.
The viewing will be 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. There will be a private burial on Friday afternoon, followed by visitation at First Baptist Church University Place, North 3rd and Hickory, from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, at Southwest Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Woodard officiating.
Bettye was born in Luling, Texas on June 5, 1932 to Ernest L. and Corinna Robbins Chuter. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to Joe Taylor Moak on September 6, 1953 at Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. They made their first home in Kermit, Texas. Joe's career in the petroleum industry led them to relocate several times across Texas.
Wherever they lived, Bettye was always involved in her church, particularly in WMU and girls' missions activities. Throughout their marriage, Joe and Bettye took great joy in the days they spent at Paisano Baptist Encampment in the Davis Mountains of west Texas.
The Moaks retired to Luling, where Bettye was active in McNeil Baptist Church and led the effort to install beautiful stained-glass windows in the sanctuary. In 2007, they moved to Abilene, where they immediately found a church home at Southwest Park Baptist Church.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, and stepfather, Fred P. King of Luling.
Bettye is survived by her husband, Joe Moak of Abilene; two sons, Barry Moak and wife Sara of Abilene, and Michael Moak of Marble Falls; two grandchildren, Corrie Moak of Abilene, and Evan Moak of College Station; a sister, Ernestine Harman and husband Raymond of Luling; a brother, Lamar Chuter and wife Ginger of Marble Falls; an aunt, Bessie Knox of Luling; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the International Mission Board, Southwest Park Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.
