Betty Bon Ward, 90 of Baird passed away on February 24th, at Coronado Nursing Center in Abilene. A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 19th at First Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene with Dr. Cliff Stewart and Dr. Janice Six officiating. Betty Bon was born to Charles Grossman and Hattie Brockwell Grossman on August 7, 1925 in New Madrid, Missouri. She grew up in Jackson, Mo., where she graduated from high school in 1943. Betty Bon started her career as Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church at Mexico, Missouri in 1955. She continued to serve in this capacity at First Church at North Little Rock, AR., First Church in Corsicana, TX. Bellaire Church in Houston, TX., Bay City Church in Bay City, TX. and The Presbyterian Church of The Covenant, Houston where she met and fell in love with Norm Ward and was married at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mo. on May 6, 1967. Later, she was secretary-book keeper for the family business and also managed Local 113 Electrical Credit Union for five years while living in Colorado. Betty Bon loved people, nature and the mountains. She was an accomplished organist and pianist, and enjoyed directing choir and singing. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Carolyn Hagood, Algeron Schoolfield, brothers Charles and Martin, all of Missouri. She is survived by husband Norm Ward, son Steve & wife Sue of Baird, daughter Tami & husband Ron Keeter of Goldthwaite, niece Amanda Keith, Bartlett, Tennessee, niece Martha Ann Wheat, Willow Springs, Missouri, cousin Linda Godwin, Columbia, Missouri, Brother-in-law, Virgil Prosser & wife Joan, Angleton, TX., Robert Prosser, Stewardson, Illinois and sister-in-law Ruth Anthe, Ottawa, Illinois. Memorials can be sent to First Central Presbyterian Church. Many thanks goes to Coronado Nursing Center, Abilene and Hendrick Hospice for Their loving care.
