Betty Sue was born in Moran, Texas to Susie Bell and Emory Morris on February 22, 1926. She attended school in Moran and graduated from Moran High School. She declined to go to college because she had a job offer to work in the bank in Moran. She loved that job and enjoyed it dearly.
Betty married Elvis Green and had two children, Debby and Mark. When that marriage ended, she moved back to Moran with her family. Her Daddy and Mother, Emory and Sue took care of her children, and Betty took a job at the First National Bank in Abilene, Texas. It was during that time that she met and fell in love with Thomas W. (T.W.) Head, and married him. They, along with the kids, lived in Abilene, Corpus Christi, Beaumont, and Dallas. She and Tom and Mark returned to Abilene, where they all three lived out their years. Betty resumed her job at the First National Bank, and worked there until retirement at age 61. She enjoyed her job at the bank as well as her retirement. Betty spent many days at the North Side Y, swimming and exercising in the pool with “The Wet Ones”. From all accounts, she had a ball! She was great friend, a wonderful mama and a strong and faithful wife. She always had a kind word and a funny story or joke to tell. She had sparkly blue eyes that made you know she was talking to you. She was a good cook, a good grandmother and good listener who usually had excellent advice.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Sue Morris; her husband Tom Head; her son Mark; and her brother, Robert Morris (Pete). Betty is survived by her daughter, Debby Matassa; her granddaughter Mamie Matassa; her grandson Wesley Head and his wife Tricia Head; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a great number of friends including Betty Casteel, Clara Townsend, Karen Mast, Nelda Rhodes, “The Wet Ones” from the Y, Wham, Clarence Bell, Mary Jane Aguillon, Mary Clinton, and many others.
Betty’s family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and nurse's aides at Abilene Regional Hospital who worked hard to help her. We would also like to thank the people at Kinder Hearts Home Health Care and Hospice Care as well as the employees at both Wisteria Way and Wisteria Independent Living Center.
