Betty Lou Jones, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at the age of 73. Memorial services will be at 2:00pm on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Ridlehoover, Dr. Jeff Reid, and the Rev. Stan Allcorn officiating. Viewing will be on Saturday, January 5th from 8:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, January 6th from 12:00pm to 5:00pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Private graveside services will be held for family.
Betty was born to Oscar Andrew and Lela (McKandless) Lowrance on January 12, 1934 in Hamilton County, Texas. She graduated from Hamilton High School and then Howard Payne University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Betty married Billy Roy Jones on July 15, 1956 in Snyder, Texas. He preceeded her in death on September 26, 2005.
Betty taught school in the Abilene Independent School District for 23 years, 22 of which were as a 1st grade teacher at Alta Vista Elementary School. Betty attended and was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church for over 40 years.
She is survived by one son, Scott Jones and his wife Brenda, of Abilene and one daughter, Susan Jones Winstead and her husband Bobby, of Little Elm. "MeMe" is also survived and will be greatly missed by her two grandchildren, Curry Ellis Jones and Bayleigh Anne Jones, both of Abilene.
The family would like to especially thank the Angels at Hendrick Hospice - Mary, Kimberly, Billie, and Suzanne - who so lovingly took care of our mother and "MeMe".
