Betty Files, 78, of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 in Durango, Colorado. Visitation will be 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 19 at Southern Hills Church of Christ. Burial will follow at McBee Cemetery. Betty was born in Lawn, Texas to the late Cecil Edward Wright and Mildred Rosella Patterson on June 19, 1936 She married Jerry Files on October 24, 1954 in Abilene, Texas and they were married for nearly 61 years. She was a graduate of Abilene High School, Class of 1954, Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1970, and Hardin Simmons University, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Class of 1991. She was a registered nurse for 44 years. Betty is survived by her husband, Jerry Files of Abilene; daughter, Barbara Braden and husband John of Abilene; sister, Charlotte Tutt and husband Jim of Abilene, nephews Cleve Tutt and wife Tresa, Kevin Tutt and wife, Marci, niece Cristi Doty, and husband, Tim; brother, Ed Wright and wife Johnnie Sue of Lawn, niece JoDee Rideout and husband, Craig, nephew, Jordan Wright, and wife, Kristin. She is also survived by a number of great nieces and nephews whom she loved very dearly.
