Bettie Jewel Broyles

1930 — October 20, 2008

It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our dearly loved Bettie Jewell Broyles, also known by friends and family as Bobbie. God called Bobbie home on October 20th, 2008 at age 78; she left us following a courageous battle with cancer. Bobbie was born August 3rd, 1930, in the Town of Breckenridge, Texas to the late R.L. and Mittie Hawkins. She graduated from Albany High School in 1947. Bobbie married John T Lawrence and had two sons, Carl and Vern Lawrence. She owned and operated Classic Beauty Salon. John T passed away in 1987. Bobbie moved to Abilene and met Mitchell Broyles, they married and worked together at Broyles Carpet and in 1990 opened Advanced Floors. Mitchell sadly passed away in 1999. Bobbie continued to managed the store until her death. Bobbie was also a prominent Beauty Control Consultant. Bobbie has been enthusiastically involved in Alcoholics Anonymous and Alanon Family Groups. She and Mitch helped and co-founded Mid- City groups. Bobbie has touched many lives through her strong love, faithful dedication, and compassion for others. She also served many years on The Big Country Conference and Friend-to-Friend Executive Boards. Her legacy will live on through all of the people that she has unconditionally loved, supported, mentored and sponsored. Bobbie Broyles has been an active member of First Christian Church in Abilene for 29 years. She served as a lifetime elder, moderator on the church board, taught Sunday school classes and headed various committees throughout the church. She truly lived and shared with others her strong relationship with God, with dignity, honor and grace. Bobbie is survived by her loving brother Raymond and wife June Hawkins of Albany; two sons: Carl and wife Vicki Lawrence of Hawley; Vern Lawrence and Tina Marie Watson of Fort Worth; step-son Gary and wife Kay Rita Broyles of Abilene; granddaughter Morgan Lawrence of Dallas; granddaughter Britney and husband Matt Poe with great-grandson Quinn Poe of McKinney; including many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and her loving pets Angel and Princess. Remember her with a smile today; she was not one for tears. Reflect instead on memories of all the happy years. Recall to mind the way she spoke and all the things she said, her strength, her stance, the way she walked, remember those instead. The good advice she'd give us, and her eyes that shone with laughter. So much of her will never die but live on ever after. As we loved you, so we shall miss you and in our memories, you are near. Visitation services will be held Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at The Hamil Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Memorial services will be held Friday, October 24th, 2008 at 10:00 am at First Christian Church, 1420 N. 3rd Street, Abilene, Texas. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm in Albany.
