Betsy Jane Fulwiler Lawlis
Our Mother, Betsy Jane Fulwiler Lawlis, was born on April 9, 1940 to William James Fulwiler, Jr. and Betsy Mangum Fulwiler in Abilene, Texas several minutes after her identical twin sister, Barbara Jean Fulwiler. They were known as the Fulwiler twins and were often mistaken for one another. Jean and Jane were blessed with a sister, Judy Morris, in 1945. Jane graduated from Abilene High School in 1958. She attended Texas Christian University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She served as a Duchess, along with her sister Jean, in the Tyler Rose Festival and was an Abilene Cotillion Belle. In 1960, she married the love of her life, Paul Thomas Lawlis. For 51 years, she was a devoted, faithful wife to Tommy until his death in January of 2012. Jane enjoyed her daughters, Tandy Brooke and Talley Jean. She was an avid gardener, had a passion for cooking and published a cookbook, Cooking with Twins and Friends, with her sister Jean. She and Jean also owned The Storage Bin in River Oaks Shopping Center in the 1980’s. Following several years of living in Colorado, she and Tommy retired in the Texas Hill Country, near Boerne, where they spent their final years.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy, parents, Bill Fulwiler and Betsy Tompkins and sisters Jean Harris and Judy Searl. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Tandy & Gary Bowers and Talley & John Scott, her grandchildren, John Andrew Scott, Audrey Brooke Boston, Thomas Alexander Scott, Luke Elliott Boston and Jane Morgan Scott. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Henry W. Harris, nieces and nephews, Hayley Harris Green, Kelly Searl Lansing, Henry William Harris, Kathleen Searl Oliver, Clinton Sean Searl and Heather Harris, sister-in-law Carrie Lawlis Lovejoy, niece Jeannie Lovejoy McCullough, nephew Paul Randolph Lovejoy and Tommy’s Aunt, Frances Lawlis Gordon.
Pallbearers will be John Scott, Gary Bowers, Andrew Scott, Alexander Scott, Luke Boston, and Will Harris.
Services for Jane will be Saturday, April 27th at 11:00 am at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal with The Rev. N. Luke Back officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
