Bessie Moore, 95, died Friday, March 16, 2007 in Abilene. The family will receive friends at the home of Curtis Moore, 33 Hoylake Drive. A Memorial service, with Pastor LaVerne Janssen officiating, will be on Tuesday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Bessie was born February 12, 1912 to William and Amna Spencer in Marshal County, Mississippi near Holly Springs. She married Chester B. Moore June 28, 1931. They had two sons, Curtis and Walter. Bessie was a homemaker until the early 1940's. She began working for McDonald Aircraft, Inc in a defense plant in Memphis, Tennessee until the end of WW II. At that time, she went to work for Midsouth Title Co. and Union Planters National Bank in Memphis where she retired in 1977. She remained in Memphis until the mid 1980's when she moved to a retirement complex in Nashville, Tenn. to be near her son, Walter. In March of 1990, she moved to Abilene to live with her son, Curtis.
Bessie enjoyed cooking, sewing, flower gardening, and fishing until she was no longer able. She was an avid animal lover. Bessie moved to Coronado Nursing Home in July, 2003. Despite her deteriorating health, she still enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders outside her room.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters and her husband, Chester who passed away in 1947. She is survived by her son; Curtis D. Moore and wife, Delores of Abilene; and Walter C. Moore and wife, Evelyn of Franklin, TN; four grandchildren Russell, Sherri, Stanley, and Randy; seven great-grandchildren and her loving cat, Milo.
