Bernice Greenway, 76, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, May 18, 2018 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Dr. Don Greenway will officiate, assisted by Dr. Bill Hillier. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 17th at the funeral home.
Bernice was born May 17, 1941 to Thomas and Beulah Brown in Denton, Texas. She grew up in Denton, where she graduated high school. She attended Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Missouri where she met her future husband, Don. Bernice received her Bachelor's Degree from Roosevelt University.
She married Don Greenway on June 10, 1961 in Electra, Texas. For 52 years Bernice was the first lady of North Side Baptist Church. She was the church organist and the church secretary. Her favorite hobby was shopping. Bernice will be greatly missed by her little dog, Princess.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Don Greenway of Abilene; her son, Kevin Greenway and wife JoAnn of Abilene; two granddaughters, Jennifer Lopez and husband Robert of Grand Prairie and Paige Greenway of Arlington; one great-grandson, Nolan, and soon to be great-granddaughter; her sister, Gladys Stout and husband Kenneth of Denton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bernice was the living example of Proverbs 31 Virtuous Woman.
