Benny Dean Bryan, Sr. was born to Bert and Jewell Bryan on August 2, 1944 in Abilene, Texas. He passed away peacefully July 16, 2010, at the age of 65, in his home after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial will be held at 4:00 pm, Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Potosi Community Center in Potosi, Texas. Arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Benny was a natural-born mechanic with the highest standards of integrity, quality and pride in his work. He owned Bryan's Dayton Alignment in Odessa, Texas until illness and disability forced him into an early retirement.
He was an excellent guitar player and enjoyed "picking and grinning" with family and pioneered the concept of karaoke bars in West Texas. He also enjoyed camping.
Benny was married to Nancy Gunn for 25 years and Kay Slaughter for 7 years.
Benny was preceded in death by both of his parents, and "Momma" Eula Bryan. Siblings: Justine Smith, Bill Bryan and Dale Bryan, Sr. and nephews Roger McGough, Kenneth Gunn and James "Little Jimmy" Gunn.
Benny is survived by his children: Dee Brookshire of San Antonio; Nancy Hulit and husband Keith, Benny Bryan, Jr and wife Jennifer, and Bobby Bryan all of Abilene, Texas; and Whitney Taylor of Odessa, Texas. Grandchildren: Patrick and Timothy J Wood, Matthew McBroom, Brittney Bryan, Timothy A Lackey, Bradley Bryan, Levi Lackey, Bailey Bryan, Marissa Cullison, Brandon Bryan, Jeniffer Cullison and Rumer Holcomb. Great-grandchildren: Kenneth and Tanna Lee Wood plus two more on the way. He is also survived by siblings: Betty Sparks, Donny Bryan, Barbara Bryan, Dyrell Bryan, Margaret Broadbent, Deborah Cook, and Buddy Bryan.
At Benny's request, there will be dinner and a party following the memorial. BYOB
