Bennie Fuqua Neal, age 100, passed away August 20, 2012 in Cedar Hill, Texas.
She was born to parents Alton and Ara Agnes Fuqua September 29, 1911 in Abilene. A lifelong resident of Abilene, she graduated from Potosi High School in 1929. She lived through the Great Depression and learned the value of a dollar. In 1941, she married Calvin Lee Neal and was married to him until his death in 1995. Together they had one child, Daniel Lee Neal. Bennie was a stay at home mom until Danny was in high school.
At that time, she began working for the Abilene Independent School District in food service. She worked at Travis Elementary and then Jefferson Jr. High for a total of 14 years. She and Calvin retired to Potosi where they enjoyed going to the community center and Blue Grass festivals. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, having her membership at Oldham Lane.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth (Buck) Fuqua and sister Inez Franklin. In addition to her son, she is survived by grandson, Adam Neal and wife Kristina, granddaughter, Amy Cates and husband, Monte, and four great grandchildren, Seth, Emma, Noah, and Faith Cates. She also was very blessed to have a host of friends who loved her.
Family visitation will be at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas on Thursday, August 23, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday, August 24, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Potosi Cemetery.
