Belva “Jan” Jones, 72, went to be with her Lord and savior on Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16th, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd Abilene, TX 79606 with Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Jan was born on August 18, 1950 at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, TX to Clarence and Vivian Schkade. She grew up in Abilene alongside her two sisters and graduated from Abilene High School in 1968. Jan always had a zest for learning and went on to attend Cisco Junior College, Sul Ross University and graduated from Draughon's Business College. On November 3, 1979 she married Tony Dale Jones at Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene, TX. Together they enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling the country and doting on their beloved pets, Spritz and Shadow. Their adventures eventually moved them to Weatherford, TX where they lived happily for many years.
After the passing of her husband, Jan moved back to Abilene to be closer to her family and friends. She picked up right where she left off, becoming an active member of Zion Lutheran Church until her passing. She enjoyed attending Joy group meetings and early Sunday church services. When she wasn't watching one of her great nephews' many sporting events, she could be found in her kitchen making one of her famous rum cakes. Her passion for baking was always apparent because she would bring several batches of freshly made sugar cookies among cakes and candies to every social gathering. In fact, some knew her as "the cookie lady". Aside from her talents in the kitchen, she was also an avid gardener and enjoyed working word puzzles and sudoku. Never having children of her own, she always loved spending time with her nieces as they grew up and eventually with her great nephews. She always came bearing many toys and treats for the children in her life and she never missed an opportunity to share one of her many jokes with them. Jan had such a big heart and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents Clarence & Vivian Schkade, her husband Tony Jones and brother-in-law Greg Bradshaw.
A beloved sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend she will be deeply missed. She is survived by sister, Mendie Schkade Hall and husband Michael Hall of Abilene, TX. Sister Pamela Schkade of Abilene, TX. Niece Jourdan Gard and husband Kevin Gard of Berkley, MI. Niece Amber Sanders, husband Steven Sanders and great nephews Briley & Brady Sanders of Abilene, TX.
