Beatrice M. Simpson

Beatrice M. Simpson, 93, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Palmer McCown will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Beatrice was born January 11, 1921 in Jones County, Texas to Robert Henry Mayfield and Sarah Annie (Story) Mayfield. She married J.Y. Simpson on October 22, 1938 in Anson, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1993. Beatrice was the owner and operator of B. & J. Home Furnishings in Abilene for 20 years. She was a member of the Abilene Woman’s Club, the Eastern Star and a member of the Shriners for over 50 years. Beatrice was a volunteer for many years for Meals on Wheels and a member of many other civic organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and four sisters. Beatrice is survived by sisters-in-law Bobbie Mayfield of Abilene and Louise Simpson Sadberry of DeLeon; numerous nieces and nephews and a special double cousin, Lisa Lemond. Pallbearers will be Wood Smith, Rod Smith, Derick Smith, Chad Lemond, Greg Lemond and Joe Key. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Shelia Mayfield for the special care given to Beatrice.
