Barry Ray McLeod

1963 — September 23, 2016

Barry passed away on September 23, 2016, in Abilene, Texas. Barry was born in Abilene to Garth and Wanda McLeod on February 19, 1963. He attended Cooper High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Texas at Arlington. He was determined and hardworking in everything he set his mind to; this was reflected daily throughout his life. Barry was a family man who was adored and respected tremendously by his family. He was married for 32 years to Julie McLeod. They have two children, Matt and Morgan. He just recently enjoyed his son’s wedding when Matt married Caroline Allen. The wedding was a high point in his life to share with his family. His children proudly describe him as the epitome of a selfless soul; one who would do anything to help them grow into the best version of themselves. He is remembered as a ‘superdad,’ one who would cross mountains for his family. Barry was a very humble and kind man to many. His life reflected that of a Godly man. He was willing to go the extra mile for anyone in need and was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone who crossed his path. His life was a blessing to those who knew him and one that will always be remembered. Barry was self-employed and enjoyed filling his free time with projects. Some of Barry’s favorite times consisted of vacations with Julie and the kids at the beach. Family time was most important to him. He loved gatherings with his family for the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas were always extra special for him because the whole family came together. Barry adored his mother and enjoyed reminiscing about his father and brother. Together they were strong and shared a special bond. Barry had a tender heart for all of his dogs and cats. Very rarely was he ever sitting in his chair in the living room without a dog by his side. Barry is preceded in death by his brother, David McLeod, and his father, Garth McLeod. Barry’s life will be remembered and treasured by: his wife Julie McLeod; his son Matt and wife Caroline; his daughter Morgan; his sister Sharon Reid and husband Greg; his sister Michel Manfredonia; and his precious and loving mother Wanda McLeod. The visitation for Barry will be at The Hamil Funeral Home from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. The celebration of life for Barry will be celebrated at Southern Hills Church of Christ on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 10:00am. The burial will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.
