Barry Arthur passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at his home in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 5 - 7 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Hamil Family Funeral Home 6649 Buffalo Gap Road, with Dr. Ward Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the DeLeon cemetery in DeLeon, Texas.
Barry was born in Ballinger, Texas to J.B. and Bess (Heck) Arthur on January 26, 1934. He grew up in Comanche, Texas and graduated from Comanche High School.
On September 5, 1959 he married Judy Fritts at Zion Hill Baptist Church near Comanche, Texas.
Barry was a well known western artist whose art career spanned almost five decades. During this time, he participated in numerous invitational art shows, exhibits, and his work was represented in various galleries throughout the southwest. For 30 plus years he was the owner and premier artist of Cedar Break Gallery. His paintings and sculptures are found in collections throughout the United States, as well as in England, Italy, and France.
Barry was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Prior to moving to Abilene, Barry was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater where he served as an active deacon for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy, and their three children: Michael Arthur and wife Terrie, Scott Arthur and wife Leighanne, Kyle Arthur and wife Robbye. He is also survived by one sister, Kathy Johnston and husband Stelvin of Comanche, Texas, and one brother Richard Arthur and wife Kitten of Abilene, Texas; five grandchildren; Payten, Madison, Jayden, and Julia Arthur, and Ashleigh Lee and husband Brent and one great grandchild Gabby, and a host of other family and friends.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother J.B. Arthur, Jr. and three grandsons, Colby, Collin, and Connor Arthur
