Barbara Wooten Fooshee, a native of Abilene, Texas and a long-time resident of Dallas went to live with her Lord and Savior on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, 2012 after a sudden illness. She was a faithful and joyful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was born Barbara Marie Wooten on August 27, 1934 in Abilene to Sterling Hunt Wooten and Georgianna Amyx Wooten. Barbara graduated from Abilene High School in 1952. She went on to attend Southern Methodist University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business. A few months after her graduation, she married John Dale Fooshee on November 24, 1956 in Abilene. Over the next many years, they made their homes all across Texas in Abilene, Houston, Marshall, and Dallas. In those years, Barbara enjoyed making their home, raising her children, volunteering in the community and in her church. She was also a very successful businesswoman, managing a Shaklee nutrition business over the years, operating as a loan officer and in later years, helping manage Reef Oil Company. In her spare time, she enjoyed travelling with Dale, researching family history, and spending time with family and her many friends. A born-again Christian, she trained her children "in the way they should go" through Bible memory and discipled many others through the Bible studies held in her home. Her favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
Her parents, her son John Sterling Fooshee and her only sister Ann Wooten Russell, preceded her in death. She will forever be remembered by her best friend and husband of 55 years, Dale Fooshee, son Drew Fooshee of Plano, Texas, daughter Anne Fooshee Clayton and her husband Chris Clayton of McKinney, Texas, daughter Jennifer Fooshee Elliott and her husband Stewart Elliott of Dallas, Texas and son John Dale Fooshee, Jr. and his wife Lindsay Powell Fooshee of Johnson City, Tennessee, as well as multiple grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. A memorial celebration service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at First Central Presbyterian Church, 400 Orange Street in Abilene.
