Barbara Barnes

Barbara Sue Barnes, 86, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023. She was born on July 23, 1937, in Burns Flat, OK to Chester and Pauline Chapman.

Barbara attended school in Foss, OK. She married George Phillip Barnes on June 20, 1973, in Phoenix, AZ. Barbara and George were faithful members of Wylie Baptist Church. She worked at Sul Ross University in Alpine for 28 years in the Education Department as an Administrative Secretary.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Wood Chapman and Pauline Geneva Chapman; brothers, Gene and Gerald Chapman; sisters, Dana Kemp and Peggy Hall, as well as grandson, Joshua Marsh.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, George Barnes of Abilene; sons: Barry Jones of Stephenville, TX, Eddie Jones and wife Susan of Dallas, TX, Tim Jones and wife Ginger of Stephenville, TX; daughters: Carol Brandt and husband Scott of North Richland Hills, TX, Jennifer Perkins and husband Willy of Graham, TX, Kimberly Barnes of Pilot Point, TX; brother, C.W. Chapman and wife Nancy of Phoenix, AZ; Steven Chapman and wife Vickie of Gilbert, AZ; sisters: Patsy Norton and husband John of Abilene, and Paula Farrell and husband Jeff of Kingfisher, OK. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 5 at Wylie Baptist Church, with Pastor Mike Harkrider officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
