B. Randolph Harrison

Dr. B. Randolph Harrison, 69, of Abilene, passed away on August 8, 2010 in Abilene. Dr. Harrison was born in San Antonio, Texas to V. A. and Charlene Harrison on November 1, 1940. In 1982, on his 42nd birthday, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Schroeder, in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Dr. Harrison graduated in 1957 from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio. After graduation, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, a city he loved, where he attended Tulane University and received a Bachelor of Science in 1962. During 1963, he completed a year of Postgraduate work at The University of Texas at Austin. In June 1968, he went on to graduate from Tulane Medical School in the upper third of his Medical Class. By June of 1971, he completed a one year Internship and a three year Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Charity Hospital, New Orleans Tulane Division. Following the completion of his Residency, he served as a Major with the United States Air Force at Dyess Air Force Base from June of 1971 to June of 1973. Beginning in June of 1972, he served as the Chief of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Harrison worked as highly respected Obstetrician and Gynecologist in Abilene for nearly four decades as he brought countless new lives into this world and touched the hearts of his many dear patients. He began at Hendrick Medical Center in 1973, where he was active for 25 years and also served of Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology Staff. He went on to work at Abilene Regional Medical Center. During his years at Abilene Regional, he served as Chief of Credentials, Chief of Staff, Employee Health Physician, and on the Board of Trustees. In addition to his medical practice, he dedicated time as the Women's Health Physician at Sears Health Clinic from July 2008 to December 2009. Dr. Harrison was a proud member of the Conrad G. Collins Society since 1973, currently Tulane Obstetrical Gynecological Alumni Society. Additional memberships include Southwest Gynecological Assembly, Texas Medical Association, Fellow of American College Obstetrics and Gynecology, and past membership on the Board of Mental Health/Mental Retardation. He also deeply enjoyed his time he and Bonnie devoted to the Abilene Zoo, as he was a current a member of the Grover Nelson Park Zoological Foundation. Dr. Harrison is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Colin Randolph Harrison. Dr. Harrison is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie and their cherished cats, Claudia, Aurora, Athena, and Muriel; his daughter, Kristin Habich and her daughter; his in-laws, Edward Schroeder, Debra Schroeder Castro, and Kathleen Schroeder Ashorn; his treasured nieces and nephew, Teresa Watson Whisnant, Kevin Watson, Jennifer Castro Mobley, and Amy Ashorn; and his dear friends, Jayne and Stacey Smyre and Bill and Amber Cree. Randy and Bonnie, with their cats, enjoyed their most happy times at their country home, Avalon. They relished in their time spent with family and friends, and he will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. A celebration of Randy's life will be held at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, August, 12, 2010 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Abilene Zoo, 2070 Zoo Lane, Abilene, Texas 79602; or Rescue the Animals Foundation, 5933 South First Abilene, Texas 79605 .
