Aubrey Manning Wadley

Aubrey Manning Wadley, 82, of Abilene, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Abilene First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Garland Wallace and Brother O.W. Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Aubrey was born December 8, 1928, in Cisco, Texas, to Gordon and Esther Wadley. He graduated from Eastland High School in 1947 and attended Cisco Junior College until 1948. At that time he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, for two and one-half years. From there he was transferred to Tyndall AF Base in Panama City, Florida, and was discharged in July of 1952. Aubrey married Luverne Williams in Panama City on August 22, 1952. They moved to Eastland, Texas in 1953 where Aubrey was in the refrigeration and air conditioning business with his father. He later worked for an electric company in Breckenridge and then moved to Abilene in 1958. He was with Timex Company until it closed in 1977. He later worked for Abilene Christian University in the energy management department, retiring in 1993. Aubrey was very active in his church, Abilene First Church of the Nazarene, serving on the church board for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Esther Wadley. Aubrey is survived by his wife, Luverne, of Abilene; one daughter, Marla Rose and husband Monte of Cunningham, KS; one son, Mark Wadley and wife Cynde of Abilene; three grandchildren: Landon Oldham and wife Vickie of Cunningham, KS, Lauren Wadley and Blake Wadley, both of Abilene; and one great-granddaughter, Morgan Oldham. He is also survived by his brother, Margil Wadley and wife Evelyn of Laguna Woods, CA. Memorials may be made in Aubrey's honor to the Abilene First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 2849 Beltway South, Abilene, TX 79606; or to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford St., Abilene, TX 79605.
