Aubrey “Bud” Harrell, 83, of Abilene, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013 at a local hospital. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Marcy Grun will officiate.
Bud was born August 30, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas to Judge and Edna Richardson Harrell. His early school was at Garden City, Texas. The family moved to Priddy, Texas in Mills County, where Bud excelled in football. He attended North Texas Agriculture College on a football scholarship. When he left college, Bud went to Hugoton, Kansas as a cowboy and rancher, where he met and married Effie Roderick. Three boys were born to them; Rocky, Rod and Race. Bud was a lifetime cattle buyer; he was the owner of cattle auctions at Brady, Lometa and Weatherford, order buying office in Jackson, Mississippi.
After the death of Effie, he married Ina Mae Colson. They ranched and continued order buying until his health failed him.
Bud was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 406 in Hugoton, Kansas, 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Moslah Shriners in Ft. Worth.
He accepted the Lord as a teenager at the First Baptist Church in Goldthwaite. He was currently a member of Oplin Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Effie, three sisters and one brother.
Bud is survived by his wife, Ina Mae “IM” Harrell; three sons, Rocky Harrell, Rod Harrell and wife Patsy, Race Harrell and wife Cathy; three grandchildren, Will Harrell and wife Bonnie, Katy Harrell Crain and husband Quincy, and Christopher Harrell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Cal Farleys Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174 or to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn, Dallas, TX 75219.
