Arnold Westbrook, 88, returned to his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 3, 2017 at his earthly home, surrounded by loved ones. Love and devotion to his family and his great faith in God carried him through struggles with many health issues, the last of which was cancer.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 5, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 6, at North Park Baptist Church, 1525 Anson Ave., Abilene. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Arnold Clinton Westbrook was born to the late Irvin Otis and Verdie Norma (Rister) Westbrook on March 1, 1928 in Jones County, Texas. He attended school in Hawley, Texas, and worked for Swinney Glass & Mirror and Binswanger Glass before starting his own business, Specialty Glass & Mirror/Resilver Shop.
Arnold married Lola Mae Armstrong on August 4, 1950, and they spent 66 wonderful years together, all of which were in Abilene. Four children were born to this union – Roger Dale (Debra Ann) of Smithville, TX, Ronnie Lance of Abilene, Gary Wayne (Debra Kay) of Abilene and Lori Denise Charles-Roberts (Andrew) of Victoria, B.C., Canada.
Arnold's love of country, gospel and bluegrass music cultivated many happy memories, friends and acquaintances since he had written songs, sang and played guitar and Dobro since the age of 12. His steadfast pursuit of Christ's example made obvious to all those who knew him, his love and devotion to God our Father. He lived a legacy of love and is a hero of our faith.
Left to cherish Arnold's memory are his wife, Lola Mae; his four children and spouse; 14 grandchildren by blood and marriage (Mark, Kellie, Jason, Amanda, Amy, Bradley, Renee', Jeremy, Clay, Tisha, Ethan, Quincy, Bethany and Jeremiah); as well as 11 great-grandchildren (Asa, Dalton, Jaydon, Zane, Elizabeth, Alex, Rebekah, Nolan, Wyatt, Ian and Isla). He is also survived by his two sisters, Norma Hambric and brother-in-law Jack, and Chris Jones; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews; and beloved Schnauzer, Samantha, and grand-dog, Zoe.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mark, Jason, Clay and Ethan Westbrook, Bradley Clary and Jeremy Eaves.
A special "thank you" to Dr. Ralph Heaven, nurse Sheila and the entire Hospice staff at Hendrick Medical Center for their excellence in care these past few weeks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
