Ardouth Carroll Goldsmith, 94, a lifelong resident of Abilene, Texas, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 in Abilene, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, at the funeral home.
Born in Ira, Texas on September 12, 1922, he was the son of Matthew Gibson Goldsmith and Eula (Gilbreath) Goldsmith. He was a 1941 graduate of Abilene High School and the Wichita Aviation Engineering School. He married Harriann Rice on June 7, 1943 in San Diego, California, where he was serving in the U.S. Navy. After the war ended, they returned to Abilene and established a home building business which they grew into H&G Construction, a general contracting firm. Over the next 40 years the company built many commercial facilities for churches and universities including Hardin-Simmons, Abilene Christian, and Texas A&M.
Carroll enjoyed fishing for black bass on area lakes and red fish on the Texas Gulf Coast. Several generations of friends and family enjoyed boating and fellowship at his "cabin" on Lake Brownwood for nearly forty years. He was a big fan of the Abilene High School Eagles as well as the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys.
He served as a deacon at University Baptist Church and a member of the board of directors for Hendrick Medical Center. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Masonic Lodge #559 in Abilene for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Harriann; his father, Matthew Gibson Goldsmith; his mother, Eula Gilbreath Goldsmith; sisters, Louie Faye Grounder and Eudera Higgins; brother, James Goldsmith; son, Stanley Carroll Goldsmith; and daughter, Cynthia Ann Goldsmith.
He is survived by his brother, Warren Goldsmith; two sons, Randy and Gary Goldsmith; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His seven grandchildren will be pallbearers: Randa Minnis, Bryan Goldsmith, Greg Goldsmith, Alan Goldsmith, Hayley Milks, Katelyn Goldsmith, and Madelyn Goldsmith.
Carroll Goldsmith was a member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene and is now among loved one's in the Kingdom of God.
