Ann Jones

August 11, 1937 — October 7, 2024

Ann Shirley Boring Jones was born August 11,1937, to Mark and Adelle Williams Shirley in Pearsall, Texas. She passed away on October 7, 2024 in Abilene, TX.

Ann attended public school in Lockhart, Texas, graduating from Lockhart High in 1955. In July of that year, she was married to Donald Bullock Boring. Two children, DeAnne and Todd Hardy Boring, were added to the family. They worked with schools and churches in Portland, Oregon, Floresville, Texas, and Basalt, Colorado. Summers were often spent assisting small churches in various states conducting Vacation Bible Schools and special Music camps and schools.

Following the death of Don while living in Colorado, Ann and the children moved to Abilene, Texas, where she enrolled in Abilene Christian University and worked part-time as a secretary for the University and for the University Church of Christ. She entered ACU as a 36-year-old Freshman and by attending college classes full time, including summers and some night classes, was able to earn two degrees in three years, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She completed a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with additional certification in Spanish and Early Childhood and earned her Master's Degree in School Administration. In addition to classroom teaching, Mrs. Jones served the Abilene district as an Associate Principal at Abilene High School, Elementary Principal at Jones Elementary, a central office administrator and Assistant Personnel Administrator. She was also a frequent Adjunct Teacher in the Education Departmental Abilene Christian University. She retired in 2001.

Most of Ann's life centered around church, family, school, and teaching. She began teaching children’s Bible classes on Wednesday nights at age 15 and following retirement led a weekly Ladies' Bible Class at Southern Hills Church of Christ for several years, frequently teaching the class.

Ann Boring was married to David R. Jones in 1985 and they enjoyed 39 years together travelling, sharing friendships and family activities, participating in church- related activities and just being retired.
