Ann Herman

Ann Pickard Herman passed away 29 January 2014. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am, Monday, February 3, 2014 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy. 277 South, with Reverend Luke Back and Reverend David Romanik officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Ann was born on April 13, 1927 and was the daughter of Dr. L.J. and Mary Pickard. Ann attended Abilene public schools. She married Jack Herman in 1941 and was by his side until his death in 2006. Together they had two children, Jimmy (Slim) and Mary Anna. Ann worked tirelessly at several jobs to help Jack through The University of Texas Dental School in Houston, Texas. In 1956, Jack became Dr. Jack Herman and opened his dental practice in Abilene, Texas. Ann was ever by his side raising their two children and keeping the home fires burning. They were married for 65 years. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Mary Anna and her husband, Dr. Jack Herman. She is survived by her son Lt. Col. Jimmy (Slim) Herman (ret) (Gretchen) of Abilene, a granddaughter Adriane Fergus (Marvin) of Allan, Texas, granddaughters, Jeffy Bartholomae (Alan) of Fort Worth, Aron Bryan (Wesley) of Abilene. Two grandsons, Josh Herman of Abilene and Jacob Herman of Fort Worth. Also five great grandchildren, Sydney and Kasey Bartholomae and Hudson Bryan, Jack and Connor Fergus. Pallbearers will be Josh Herman, Jacob Herman, Marvin Fergus, Alan Bartholomae and Wesley Bryan. A special thank you to her caregivers Mickey New, Barbara Blassingame, Christina Milner, Krystal Smith; nurses Lorelei Sheets, Diana Gallagher and Lori Kister and James Nichols, PT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rescue the Animals, 5933 South 1st Street, Abilene, TX 79605; Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander Street, Abilene, TX 79602 or a favorite charity.
