Andrew Billie Vlahakos

Andrew Billie Vlahakos passed away on the 4th of October 2014, with his wife JoAnna by his side. He was just several weeks from turning 84 yrs old. He was born to Ageliki and Billie George Vlahakos on October 22, 1930, in Hillsboro, Texas. He was one of four boys including George Vlahakos, Tony Vlahakos, and his identical twin Johnny Vlahakos. Andrew graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1949 and went on to attend the University of Houston School of Pharmacy where he graduated in 1953. His first job was with the T. B. Bond drugstore in Hillsboro, Texas. He then moved to Waco, Texas with his family and worked for Green’s La Vega Pharmacy from 1963 to 1988 where he met and became friends with many people who were his customers in the Bellmead community. He then went to work for Baylor University Pharmacy from 1988 to 1999. He then worked part time for various pharmacies completing a career and receiving a 50 year Certificate of Service as a pharmacist. He was very proud of this accomplishment. Andrew enjoyed watching his son play baseball, playing backyard sports with all the neighborhood kids, watching Dallas Cowboy’s football games, spending time with his family and friends, and never missing an opening day of dove hunting with his best friend Donald “Moco” Embry and his brothers George and Johnny. He is survived by his wife of 55 years JoAnna Vletas Vlahakos, his son Andrew B. Vlahakos Jr. and wife, Lyn; his grandchildren and rays of sunshine, Nicholas, Sarah, and Christopher Vlahakos; his brother Tony Vlahakos and wife Eleni; along with numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas on Friday, October 10th. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the chapel service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery where he will be buried alongside other close family members.
