Amos David May, Jr. DDS 77 of Abilene, Texas passed away on May 25th, 2023 in Abilene, Texas at Lyndale Abilene Memory Care.
Visitation will be 11:00-12:00, Wednesday, May 31st at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX 79606.
Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, May 31st immediately following visitation at Hamil Family Funeral Home with Jeff Lewis, lifelong friend of David's officiating.
David was born in Rule, Texas to Amos David May, Sr. and Tomi Teaf May on May 23rd, 1946. He graduated from Rule High School in 1964. He obtained his DDS degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1971. He married Lynda Bradford May on February 12, 1972 in San Antonio, Texas.
David fulfilled his goal of practicing dentistry in Abilene, Texas for 50 years and was involved in all aspects of dentistry. He held many offices in the 17th District Dental Society. He was a mentor to several dentists in Abilene.
David was also, very active in the Texas Dental Association, served on several committees and was the President of the Texas Dental Association 2007-2008. He, also, served on a council in the American Dental Association.
David was a Mason and a member of the John Sayles Masonic Lodge #1408.
David had several passions. One was a fast boat named the Cookie Monster. He loved to fish with his fishing buddies. And, his biggest passion was playing golf and, actually, got a hole in one, once.
David was preceded in death by his father, Amos David May, Sr.
David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lynda May and his son, Keith. His sister, Susan Lefevre (Larry) and brother, Randy May, his mother, Tomi Teaf May and nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation (tdasmiles.org), Abilene Community Theatre (abilenecommunitytheatre.org) or any charity of your choice.
The family of David wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Laura Templeton and Hendrick Hospice care for taking such great care of him. Also, sincere thanks to Lyndale Memory Care for the wonderful care he received while there. And, the wonderful family and friends who have supported them through this.
