Amanda Martha Schneider, 95, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Road, Abilene, with Reverend Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas, with Reverend Michael Mueller of Risen Lord Lutheran Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Amanda was born July 18, 1912 in Malone, Texas to Adolph and Emma Boortz. She married the love of her life, William Schneider, on September 30, 1930. Before God took William home in 1988, the couple was married for 57 years. Amanda's hobbies included bowling, golf, and she was a whiz at dominoes. She also loved to fish. She was great at sewing and cooking and often received rave reviews. She loved to travel, seeing each coast of the United States and Hawaii. Amanda grew up in the Lutheran church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She is remembered with love and as a friendly, warm person with great stories to share.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Schneider; a daughter, Dorothy Saavedra; one grandson, Gary Wells; one brother, Walter P. Boortz; and one sister, Louise Makowsky.
Survivors include her daughters, Marjorie Cooper, Cly Flenniken and her husband Red, Pat Gazaille and her husband Ed; two sisters, Bertha Ryno and Ella Steinke; nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Art Gazaille, Jason Gazaille, Blair Church, Sam Corbett, Don Terhune, and Bryan Chandler.
