Alvin Cox, 88, died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at an Abilene medical center.
The son of Ella (Malone) and Herman Cox, Alvin was born on September 29, 1925, in the Red Springs Community in Baylor County, Texas, and graduated from high school in Seymour, Texas. From 1943 to 1946, Alvin served his country during World War II in the U. S. Navy, having attained the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer.
Alvin married Ruth Brown on March 27, 1946, in Childress, Texas. After making Abilene their home, he worked as a carpenter for Sivley Construction for many years and was a member of Hwy 36 Church of Christ.
Two daughters, Teresa Barron and Julia Lewis; his parents; and a sister, Betty Connor, preceded him in death.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Ruth Cox of Abilene; a grandson, Bradley Alvin Barron; and one great-granddaughter, Erika Barron.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 13, in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Prayer, 5750 Hwy 277 South, with Don Southall officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
