Alvah Jean Hilton, age 96, passed away December 21, 2023, in Abilene, Texas with her children by her side.
Visitation will be at Hillcrest Church of Christ Tuesday, December 26th from 5 to 7 pm.
Funeral services will be at Hillcrest Church of Christ Wednesday, December 27th at 10:30 am in Abilene, Texas. Arrangements are with The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.
Alvah Jean was born in Waco Texas on August 16,1927 to Essie and Milton Henderson. She graduated from Waco High School in 1944 and then came to Abilene to attend ACC. She played the Saxophone for the Waco High School band as well as the ACC Big Purple She graduated from Abilene Christian College in1947 with a degree in biology. While at ACC she met the love of her life L.D. (Bill) Hilton and they married on March 31, 1947, and were married for 67 years before his passing in 2014. She was a loving devoted wife, mother and nanny.
Alvah Jean and Bill attended the Graham Street Church of Christ and were founding members of Hillcrest Church of Christ. She was active in teaching children's bible school classes as well as traveling on many VBS mission trips with other Hillcrest members. She and Bill were strong supporters of Christian Education and were strong supporters of Abilene Christian Schools.
She was very creative with sewing, decorating cakes, ceramics, doll making, and her passion of making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved playing games, especially with her 42 group and her grandchildren,
Preceded in death by her husband L.D. (Bill) Hilton, her parents Milton and Essie Henderson and one grandchild Morgan Elizabeth Hilton
She is survived by her four children. Mary Alice and Clint Horne, Bobby and Nancy Hilton, Don and Sheila Hilton, Lou Ann and John Riley. Grandchildren Pam and David Quill, Melissa and Hollis Millikin, Jennifer Baker, Shane Hilton, Rebekah and Brock Button, Rachel and Michael Martin, David and Jenny Riley, Brady and Stephanie Hilton, Julianne and Heath Hutson, and Marissa and Caleb Northrup. Great grandchildren Alexis and Bryce Button, Emma and Owen Martin, Jackson and Lindley Riley, Ace Northrup, Wesley, and Walker Hilton, Everly, Charlotte and Jett Hustson, Kyler and Kaylee Baker, Randall Quill, Jordan and Jensen Daffron.
Great Great grandchild Brixton McClaren.
Pallbearers will be Shane Hilton, Brock Button, Michael Martin, David Riley, Brady Hilton, Caleb Northrup, Kyler Baker, and Heath Huston.
Honorary Pallbearers are Bryce Button, Ace Northrup, Walker Hilton, Wesley Hilton, Jackson Riley, Owen Martin, and Jett Huston
Special thanks to Jeanette Conley, University Place Staff, caregivers from Home Instead, and Hendrick Hospice for all the loving care given the past few months.
