Alva Crystel Talley Greenawalt, 93, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on April 2, 2022 in Abilene. She would have been 94 in twenty days. A family service will be held later.
Crystel was born in Hylton, Texas to Alva and Zelma May Curry Talley on April 22, 1928. She lived around Shep, Texas until 1937. She went to school at Shep for the first three years and moved to Barstow, Texas in 1937. Her father was a farmer at Barstow where she attended her final years of school. She married MF Greenawalt in Palacios, Texas on May 2, 1946. They were parents of two sons, Charles William Greenawalt and Richard Day Greenawalt both born while living in Pecos, Texas. They moved to Palacios in January 1950 and then to Olivia, Texas, in August of 1962. Her husband worked at Alcoa Aluminum in Point Comfort, Texas for 36 years. She worked for HEB as bookkeeper from 1963 to 1978. They lived in Olivia until 1990 then moved to Medina, Texas on 20 acres that they loved. MF died February 13, 1998, while there. She met and later married Sam Walker on September 8, 2001. They moved and built a home at Buffalo Gap, Texas December 23, 2007. They enjoyed traveling until he died April 15, 2016. She lived there two more years and moved to University Place, Abilene, Texas until her passing. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ.
Crystel was preceded in death by her father, Alva Talley, mother, Zelma, spouses, MF Greenawalt and Sam Walker, brothers Duff Talley, Raymond Talley and most recently Carlos Talley.
Crystel is survived by her sons, Charles William Greenawalt (Barbara) La Vernia, TX, Richard Day Greenawalt (Jimmie Louise) Abilene; four grandchildren, Brenda Sue Prather (Russell) Idalou, TX, Rana Lee Driskill (Jason) Gainsville, TX, Robert Charles Greenawalt (Rosie) College Station, TX, Laura Iris Secrest (Leonard) La Vernia; Ten great-grandchildren, Bryson Travieso, Bailey Field (Jacob), Marysa Travieso, Abigail Heinsohn (Zackary), Makenna Greenawalt, Brittney Gentry (Brett), Avery Secrest, Corynne Greenawalt, William Secrest, Luke Prather, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Crystel loved all of her family and friends and will leave a lasting example and legacy of a strong faith and love.
Memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels Plus of Abilene, her favorite.
