Alma Knox Taylor, 82, died January 5, 2011 in Abilene, Texas after a brave battle with cancer. Born December 18, 1928 in Crockett, Texas to Dovie and Leo Knox, Alma was the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Crockett, Texas and graduated from Crockett High School and Sam Houston State University. She was a devoted mother and avid cheerleader to her sons Charlie and Steve. Alma lived in Abilene, Texas and had a long, successful career at Waldrop's Furniture. In recent years she brought joy to all the patients and staff at her son's orthodontic office. A sports enthusiast and strong competitor, countless memories were made playing golf and tennis with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Dovie and Leo Knox, her granddaughter Hallie Elizabeth Taylor and her twin sister Bettye George, as well as brothers Willie Knox, HB Knox, and sisters Dorothy Barker, Peggy Mattox and Doris Faye. Alma is survived by her sons Charles Marcus Taylor III and wife Linda, Steven Knox Taylor and wife Kristine. Her grandchildren Meredith and Stephen Luskey, Margaret Claire Taylor, John Knox Taylor and Ellen Kristine Taylor were the joy of her life.
A memorial service will be held at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal at 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 7th with The Reverend Luke Back officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Visitation will be at 1406 Woodland Trail after the service.
