Allie Lee Stricklin

Allie Lee Stricklin, 103, of Abilene, died Thursday, April 19, 2007 at a local nursing care center. Graveside services will be on Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park, in the Memorial Lawn section. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at First Baptist Church, with Chris Allen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Mrs. Stricklin was born in Stonewall County on April 17, 1904, the daughter of J.D. and Luella Powell. After graduating from Spur High School, she furthered her education at, what was then, Hardin-Simmons College. On March 8, 1926 Allie married Troy A. Stricklin in Abilene. He preceded her in death in 1968. She volunteered at Hendrick Hospital for many years. She was also a member of the Abilene Woman's Club and enjoyed playing bridge in various bridge clubs. Mrs. Stricklin was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Troy, and ten siblings. She was the last of eleven children to pass away. Mrs. Strickin is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Peterson and her husband Royce (Pete) of Abilene; two grandchildren, Gary Peterson of Tuscola, and Joe Peterson and his wife Cathy of Lawn; two great-grandchildren, Darcy Peterson of New Braunfels, and Derek Peterson of Lawn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Medical Care Mission, 302 Medical Drive, Abilene, Texas 79601 or to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.
