Allen M. Clifton

Allen M. Clifton, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the age of 74. The family will receive friends today, Monday, March 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating, will be Tuesday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lost Creek Cemetery, near May, Texas. December 3, 1933, Allen was born in Westbrook, Texas to Edwin Clifton and Susie (Leach) Clifton. After graduating from Westbrook High School, he attended Hardin-Simmons University, where he graduated in 1955with a degree in Mathematics. August 13, 1953, Allen married Annie Ruth Calley in Silver, Texas. He moved from San Angelo to Abilene in 1969, where he worked at Abilene Savings and Loan for numerous years, and was later the business manager for Dr. Robert Leverton, before retiring. Allen was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Allen was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marie Stavely. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Clifton, of Abilene; three daughters, Shirley Diane Keown and her husband David, Debbie Ruth Burks and her husband Jim, and Sharon Darlene Cox and her husband Glen, all of Abilene; one brother Leecroy Clifton, of Cibola; one sister, Ramelle Parsons, of San Angelo; three grandchildren, Andy, Ginger and Heather; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Gavin. Michael Gassiot, Billy Gassiot, David Keown, Jim Burks, Glen Cox, Andy Keown, and Bryant Stavely will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made in honor of Allen Clifton to Care Inn of Abilene, 4934 South 7th Street, Abilene, Texas 79605.
