Albert (Bunky) Riskie Stuart, age 85, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2018 from natural causes.
Al was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 19, 1932 to the late Helen (nee Riskie) and Albert Stuart. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he was a generous man who would help friends and strangers alike. He was a proud paratrooper in 11th Airborne out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky toward the end of the Korean War. An avid sports fan and lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and working the land.
Al spent his career in the newspaper business beginning at the Woodbury Times in Woodbury, New Jersey. He later relocated to San Angelo, Texas to work for the San Angelo Times and eventually transferred to the Abilene Reporter in Abilene,Texas where he retired.
Al is survived by four children, Douglas Stuart (Linda), Daniel Stuart (Anne), Dirk Stuart, and Stacey Holtzhauser (Tom); six grandchildren, Nicole Stuart, Megan Martin, Sage Stuart, Melissa Holtzhauser, Shaye Stuart, and Tommy Holtzhauser; and two great-grandchildren, Hadley Martin and Makenna Martin. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry Stuart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Daniel Stuart, and a brother, Robert Stuart.
The family would like to thank Al’s faithful and dedicated close friends from the Abilene and Nolan areas who visited him over the years. In addition, the family would like to send a special thanks to the Hendricks Hospice Care Center and Wisteria Place for the wonderful care they provided.
A memorial and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hendricks Hospice Care Center, 1651 Pine Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.
