Albert F. Haile, Jr., 88, of Abilene, died Monday, March 5, 2018 at home surrounded by love ones.
Born in Abilene, Texas on December 4, 1929, Albert was the son of Anna Kay (Lyons) and Albert F. Haile, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict where he received a Bronze Star Medal. While overseas his next-door neighbor, Shirley Lea Worley whom he had never met wrote him letters. After returning from the service Albert and Shirley officially met, fell in love and married on June 25, 1955. He was employed at Karwer Machine Works for 28 years before owning his own business Haile Machine Works. Albert was always involved with his children's church activities, baseball teams and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 211. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many activities. Albert was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Abilene where he was very active in the choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna Frances Haile and Gloria Haile McGlasson; and a niece, Patti Weatherly.
Albert is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Shirley Haile of Abilene; and four children, Wesley Haile and wife Donna of Melissa, Texas, and Brenda Haile, Roy Haile and wife Sharee and Michelle Haile all of Abilene. Survivors also include five grandchildren, Mindi Carmichael (Chris), Jennifer Buzan (Scott), Cody Haile (Jessica), Tyler Haile (Katee) and Micah Haile (Holly); and six great-grandchildren, Grayson Buzan, Olivia Carmichael, Caitlyn Carmichael, Brooks Buzan, Ella Grace Haile and Reese Haile.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, March 9, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 10, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Rake officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Grandchildren and longtime family friend Richard Whipple will serve as pallbearers.
