Alan "Kent" Potts went home to be with his Maker on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at a local hospital. He was 45 years old.
Funeral services will be today at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Abilene, 202 Butternut. Graveside services will follow at the Potosi Cemetery, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
Kent was born on January 3, 1962 in Lubbock, Texas to his wonderful parents, Emory and Mary Potts. He graduated from Monterrey High School in 1980 where he was a shining athlete winning numerous awards in football and baseball. After many years of working in the food business with Furr's Corporation and Marriott services, Kent pursued his love of nature and began his landscaping and irrigation business, BC Lawn and Landscaping. He had been in business for over 10 years.
Kent had a magnetic personality and love for life. If you met him, you liked him. He had a knack for making people feel special and loved his family and children with all of his heart. Kent often told people, "I can do two things and that's making things grow and cooking". He did both very well. If he wasn't outside making things beautiful, he was inside cooking something delicious. He cooked every opportunity he could and especially loved cooking for family gatherings. Kent was an amazing Christian man; a loving son; a fun brother; an incredible husband and dedicated dad. The absence in our hearts is great but our joy for him being with his Lord is greater.
Kent is survived by his wife and son, Jennifer and Brycen Potts of Clyde; a son Blane Potts and daughter Shelby Potts of Lubbock; his parents Emory and Mary Potts of Lubbock; brother Keith and wife LeJae Potts of Lubbock and brother Craig and wife Paula Potts of Lubbock. Kent was a fun and Loving uncle to six nieces and four nephews. He also had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him tremendously.
