Alan Duane Day

1938 — February 5, 2006

After 31 years of a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, Duane Day passed away Sunday, February 5, 2006 with family and friends at his side. A funeral service, with reverends Oscar Fanning, David Cason, Lee Fuller and Dr. Jeff Reid officiating, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Duane was born on April 2, 1938 in Graham, Texas to James R. Day and Laura Mae (Heard) Day. At Graham High School, he earned All-State football honors as well as being selected to the All Century football team. He attended North Texas University where he played football for the "Mean Green." On June 20, 1959, Duane married Loretta Gough in Graham, Texas. He was a sales engineer for Schlumberger for 26 years in Andrews, Midland and Abilene, Texas. Duane and his family moved to Abilene in 1975 from Midland. He was an avid supporter of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Mr. Day was a member of Wylie Baptist Church and a member of Monroe Levrets Sunday School class. Duane was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Gough Day of Abilene; two sons, Randy Day of Abilene, Daryl Day and his wife Rebecca of Frisco; Texas, his daughter-in-law, Marisa Day of Tyler, Texas; one daughter Marsha Stewart and her husband Terry of Abilene; two brothers, Denny Day and his wife Leeda Rae of Mesquite, Texas, Jim Day and his wife Brenda of Rockwall, Texas; two sisters, Darlene Day of Dallas, Texas and Betty Haire and her husband John of Mesquite, Texas; eight grandchildren, Scott, Shane and Brittney Day, Zach, Ashley and Hailey Stewart, and Austin and Blake Day. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. Pete Sherman, Doug Eichorst, Coach Roy Curry, Bill Kirby, Monroe Levrets, Dale Doby, Tom Adkins and Terry Bates will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Maxey, Charlie Underwood, Ray Brazzell and Gene Jones. Memorials may be made to Wylie Baptist Church Building Fund, 6097 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas 79606.
