Agnes Baylor Eckles King passed away on December 14, 2016. She was born to Alfred Hicks and Pattie Flack Eckles in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on April 17, 1921.
Aggie graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1941 and married John Jerimiah King on November 15, 1943. The couple moved to Abilene in 1954 and quickly became active in the life of this community. A long-time member of First Central Presbyterian Church, Aggie faithfully served as a Deacon, an Elder and as President of the Women of the Church. Additionally she spent countless volunteer hours in the FCPC Food Pantry, the Presbyterian Medical Care Mission and as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Aggie was compassionate and caring, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a godly woman who loved serving her Lord.
Family and friends were Aggie's passion and delight. She was a gentle, Southern lady with a keen interest in others and an ever-cheerful attitude. She enjoyed being part of the Abilene Woman's Club, Chapter CK of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Abilene Panhellenic where she was recently celebrated as a 75-year member of Chi Omega national women's sorority. Aggie especially enjoyed her sewing and bridge groups and was a loyal friend to all. Her family will treasure memories of her as a loving, devoted, affirming and gracious matriarch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her sister and her husband.
Left to grieve her passing but joyful in the promise of eternal life in Jesus Christ are John Jerimiah King, Jr. and his wife Suzie, Pattie King Hubbard and her husband Bart, Chris King Faehnle and her husband Steve; grandchildren Julie King Crawford and her husband John, Leslie King Nagy and her husband Steve, Beth Hubbard, John Hubbard and his wife Tara, Stephanie Locke and her husband Cory, Jerimiah Smith and his wife Jennifer; step-grandchildren David Faehnle, Joseph Faehnle, Tim Faehnle and Sarah Faehnle Mast and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is set for 1 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016, at Elmwood Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at First Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Clifford S. Stewart, Dr. Janice Six and the Rev. Jerimiah Smith officiating. The family will receive friends after the services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
