Dr. A. Allen Heidebrecht was born near Hydro, Oklahoma on August 12, 1919 and died in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 21, 2011. A memorial service will be conducted at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal on Saturday, January 29 at 2:00 pm with The Reverend Nathaniel Luke Back officiating. Inurnment will be in the Church of the Heavenly Rest Columbarium under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A reception honoring Allen's life will follow in the Parish Hall.
Allen was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 56 years. He married Lucyle Morrison Armstrong in 1998 and was preceded in death by Lucyle in 2004. He is survived by daughters Linda Perry of Orlando , Florida, Molly Bryan and husband Dr. Greg Bryan of Shreveport, grandchildren Mia Bullock and husband Nole of Salem, Oregon, Mike Perry and wife Elaine of Eden Prairie , Minnesota, Mary Margaret Thomas of Seattle, Lydia Thomas of New Orleans, John Allen Thomas of NYC, Courtney Bourgeois and husband Robert of Fort Worth, Blair Bryan of Shreveport, Christopher Bryan of Chicago, Illinois and 4 great grandchildren: Jake and Kelly Bullock and Kitrina and Melanie Perry. He is also survived by Lucyle's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and very close friend Coletta Clermont and her children and grandchildren.
Dr. Heidebrecht graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1941 and received an M.S. from Colorado State University, and a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State in Animal Nutrition. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After serving on the Animal Science staffs of Colorado State and Oklahoma State, he accepted the Chief Nutritionist position in 1951 with Paymaster Feeds in Abilene; he retired in 1984 as Director of Feed Research for ACCO Feeds Division of Anderson Clayton and Co. A member of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal since 1953, he served on the Vestry and various committees.
He served on Abilene Chamber of Commerce Agriculture committees in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. He was a member of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, American Society of Animal Science, Nutrition Council of the American Feed Industry Association serving as Chairman in 1968-69, and Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He received the distinguished Animal Science Graduate Award in 1969 from Oklahoma State University and served on a number of State and National Feed Industry committees.
