Stephen Wayne (Steve) Jeter, age 64, passed away Monday morning, June 26, 2017 in Abilene, Texas.
Born in Pilot Point, Texas on November 26, 1952, Steve was the son of the late James Jeter and his mother, Esta (Knight) Jeter. He attended school in the Abilene Independent School District, graduating from Abilene High School in 1972.
Steve was an avid music lover, especially Jazz and the Blues, and loved promoting these special genres of music. His love of horses began at an early age thanks to his Uncle Jack and his Uncle Preach giving him his first horse, Wendy.
Steve is survived by his mother, Esta Jeter; his sister, Kendra Gililland and husband David; nieces, Shoni Power and husband Dane, and Hali Thompson and husband Adam; great-nephews, Grayson and Gavin Power, and Caiden and Callen Thompson and beloved uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He is also survived by his constant companions, Shane, a loyal, loving dog, and Tia, his rescue dog of massive size and heart.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1, at First United Methodist Church in Abilene at 2:00 p.m. with Assistant Pastor Guy Irvin officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rescue the Animals SPCA, 4620 North 1st St., Abilene, TX 79603; Meals on Wheels Plus, Inc., P.O. Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604; or a preferred charity of the donor.
The family first began in the funeral business in 1933. The Hamil's legacy, beginning with the Elliott's to John and Jo Ann Hamil and now continuing with Robert and Karla Hamil, is to serve families in their time of need.
