Elbert G. Peak

June 13, 1920 - July 25, 2010

Dr. Elbert G. Peak, 90, of Abilene, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Faith Baptist Church, where he pastored for more than 40 years. Rev. Mike Schirle of Orlando, Florida will officiate with Dr. Charles Hundley, Dr. Homer Ritchie and Dr. Omer Ritchie assisting. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Dr. Peak was born in Anderson County, Kentucky June 13, 1920 to Marion C. Peak and Annie Lee Crask. He felt the call to preach while in high school. After graduating from high school in 1940, he married the love of his life, Ida Mae Perry Peak, June 19, 1940 in Lawrenceburg Kentucky. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas where Dr. Peak attended Bible College. Dr. Peak received his Bachelors and Divinity Degrees from Arlington Baptist College and Bible Baptist Seminary. He later served as Vice President of the Arlington Seminary for 12 years and was given an honorary doctorate in 1962.

Dr. Peak began his ministry by starting a church "from scratch" in Mobile, Alabama. He then pastored in Los Angeles, California for four years before coming to Abilene in 1950 as pastor of Corinth Baptist Church. In 1964 the church moved to a new location and became Faith Baptist Church. Dr. Peak founded Faith Christian Schools in 1959 which one time had 360 pupils in kindergarten through sixth grade. In 1979 he started publishing the Prophetic Round-Up and began Biblical Faith Ministries. He also had a radio and TV ministry program called "Bible Treasury Telecast" every Sunday on KRBC.

Dr. Peak was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dr. Luther C. Peak, twin brother, Selbert Lee Peak; sister, Eudenia Cox Hager and two sons-in-law, David Runnels and Travis Robinson.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ida Mae Peak, of the home; daughters, Lucy Kay Robinson and Gay Runnels; son, Sam Peak and wife Brenda, all of Abilene. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kory Robinson and wife Shannon, Perry Robinson and wife Stacey, Ashley Robinson, Jory Runnels and wife Calley, Cinnamon Runnels, Shonna Peak, Jesse Peak, Sarah Buck, Jessica Buck and Hannah Peak; as well as his great-grandchildren, Campbell and Landry Robinson, Lexi and Parker Robinson, and Cutter and Tripp Runnels.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and family friend, Billy Dale McCann. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Hodges, Jimmy Butler, Jake Moore, Larry Hampton and Steve Abel.
